The things people ask me most — misted units, what a call-out costs, how fast I can get to you, and what's actually repairable rather than a replacement job. If yours isn't here, drop it in the enquiry form.
My double glazing has gone misty inside — can it be fixed without new windows?
Almost always, yes. Misting means the seal on the double-glazed unit has failed and moisture has got between the panes. The glass unit is replaced and your existing frames, handles and hinges stay exactly as they are. It's a fraction of the cost of a new window, and usually a single visit.
How much is a call-out?
The standard call-out is £50, which covers attendance and an initial inspection. Parts, materials and any further labour are quoted and agreed with you before I carry on — no surprises added afterwards. Emergency and out-of-hours jobs are priced individually when you call, and you get that figure before I set off. Full detail is in the terms of work.
What are your working hours?
Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm and Saturday, 9am–1pm. The emergency line runs 24/7 — outside normal hours that's for genuine emergencies (break-ins, smashed glass, lockouts), and those jobs are priced individually when you call.
Do you cover emergencies, and how fast can you get to me?
Yes — there's a 24/7 emergency line for break-ins, smashed glass and lockouts. Being based in Orpington and working a 5-mile radius means I'm usually close by, and emergency board-ups can be done same-day to make a property secure until a permanent repair.
Which areas do you cover?
Orpington and roughly five miles around it — including Petts Wood, Chelsfield, St Mary Cray, St Paul's Cray, Green Street Green, Farnborough, Locksbottom, Bromley and Sidcup. Domestic and commercial. If you're just outside that, ask anyway.
My UPVC door won't lock or has dropped — is that a whole new door?
Rarely. A door that's stiff, dropped or won't throw its lock is usually a hinge adjustment, a worn multipoint mechanism or a failed cylinder. All three are repairable. Replacing the door is the last resort, not the first quote.
Are you insured, and do you guarantee the work?
Yes. Workmanship on installations is guaranteed for 365 days from the installation date, repairs for 90 days and access-control work for 28 days, with manufacturer warranties on supplied products passed straight on to you. Full detail is in the terms of work.
Do you do commercial work as well as houses?
Yes — a good share of the work is commercial: automatic doorsets commissioned to BS EN 16005, access control (maglocks, keypads, readers), shopfront glazing and fire-door inspection and maintenance.
